Does UI/UX Design have a future?

I just recently started taking Google UI/UX Course from Coursera and I’m in my 3rd week of course 1, while taking notes of the lesson something came up to my mind and it kind of bugs me.

“Is what I’m doing worth it? is UI/UX design worth learning today?”

This may be your question too and most likely this also bugs every time you choose to dig deep in UI/UX. Let me share my thoughts and maybe this may help you figure out what’s the next step.

I came across this YouTube video from CareerFoundry explaining Information Architecture or most commonly known as IA. I was hooked! The topic was well explained, and I’m more confident now to say that I have a better understanding of IA (Maybe I can write that down too 🤔).

But what really took my attention is when Maureen showed arngren.net which is apparently made during the 90s (or at least the design is).

I’ll be honest I haven’t looked up any website designs made in the 90s because why would I? right? But the moment I saw this I realized how UX design evolved significantly.

Arngren website demonstrates how our world would look like if web design isn’t a thing. No UX laws to follow, no design patterns, and no proper UI implementation imagine seeing this type of web design on your mobile phone.

So, is there a future for UI/UX Design?

It’s up to you? are you willing to be a part of the future of UI/UX Design? if yes then there’s no question to ask. As said by one of the quotes that I resonate with the most

The best way to predict the future is to create it.

As seen by how drastic the changes in web design was since 90s I can say that the future is exciting, The “UX” term is becoming more common, inclusive design is getting more and more attention, and we have more creatives now than ever.

We can be part of that future, YOU can be the future of UI/UX Design.

Stay creative!
